ECONOMIC ACTIVITY increased at a slight to moderate pace for ten of the twelve Federal Reserve Districts, while one District reported a slight decline and one reported no change. Consumer spending remained mixed across Districts and increasingly bifurcated across income groups amid affordability pressures. Agriculture conditions were unchanged or declined for most of the Districts, with cost pressures intensifying from fuel and fertilizer spikes.
More broadly, business outlooks for the next six months were reported to have little change in anticipated growth, as elevated uncertainty and signs of weakening consumer spending weighed on sentiment …
LEASING OR RENTING pasture or forage is commonplace for many livestock producers across the West and is often an integral part of an operation. While there are many types of arrangements used, establishing a fair and equitable agreement for both parties involved can be a challenge at times. External information sources can provide pricing information on various types of arrangements. However, these estimates often do not accurately reflect the true value of the forage for individuals on either side of a potential lease.
The federal child labor provisions, authorized by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) of 1938, also known as the child labor laws, were enacted to ensure that when young people work, the work is safe and does not jeopardize their health, well-being, nor educational opportunities. The FLSA establishes minimum ages for covered employment in agriculture, unless a specific exemption applies.

TED BAKER IS A WYOMING CROP AND HAY PRODUCER who faces a common challenge among irrigated farmers in the region: a limited water supply for irrigation. Midway through the growing season, Ted had been following his usual irrigation schedule when a water-limiting event occurred. He believes he has three realistic options: focus irrigation on the alfalfa, focus on the corn, or split the water between both crops; the latter would likely lead to inadequate irrigation for each . . .

SOMETIMES a supervisor’s best move is not to lead but rather to get out of the way and let workers do what they know needs to be done in the way they knowhow to do it. In the normal course of events, though, supervisors in agriculture want to initiate employee action or at least modify its direction. They need the power to influence.
